Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio (TYS): An interdisciplinary design studio bridging Japan and Europe

Founded in 2002 by the Japanese designer Teruhiro Yanagihara, Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio (TYS) is an interdisciplinary design studio with offices in Kobe (Japan) and Arles (France), combining product, interior, textile and graphic design with art direction and brand development. At its heart lies an open approach to design that brings together different disciplines, cultural influences and creative perspectives.

Teruhiro Yanagihara’s design approach combines traditional craftsmanship, regional materials and functional design with cultural influences from Japan and Europe. This approach is also embodied in the collection created for the Danish manufacturer &Tradition : the die-cast aluminium lamp, with its characteristic struts of fine oak arranged around the diffuser, combines Japanese shadow aesthetics with Scandinavian simplicity.

Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio’s collaborators include Kvadrat, 1616 / arita japan and Karimoku New Standard. Works by the studio are featured in the permanent collections of the Centre national des arts plastiques in Paris and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
